The Spearfish Canyon Country Club features the premier golf course in the Northern Black Hills.  Originally named the Spearfish Canyon Holding Company, the country club was established in 1921 and the front nine was opened shortly thereafter, making it one of the oldest golf courses in the great state of South Dakota.  The 3138 yard front nine features a traditional layout tree lined throughout.  Because of its early construction and virtually unchanged design, the front nine relies heavily on its very small push-up greens to provide difficulty for scoring.  The front nine is also highlighted by some moderate to severe elevation changes which greatly add to the challenge.  The original nine is nestled in natural terrain surrounded by a thick forest of ponderosa pine, oak, and Black Hills spruce trees.   Legendary Spearfish Canyon provides an unmatched scenic backdrop which captivates all that play.
            In 1988, the Spearfish Canyon Country Club became the only 18 hole golf course in the Northern Hills.  Unlike the original nine, the back nine employs a modern design intertwined with an oak-laden creek bed which enhances natural definition.  The 3529 yard links-style layout features rolling hills and large greens, producing equal but different challenges from that of the original nine.  North of the country club, well-known Lookout Mountain offers a picturesque border.
